Assessment and Program Design

The first step toward engaging with Modern Minds is having the courage to contact us. A member of our team will ask a few questions about what you are experiencing, helping to determine if Modern Minds is a good fit for you.
Step 2
Comprehensive Assessment and Feedback Session
Part 1: Comprehensive Assessment
This should take 90 minutes
If the Modern Minds program seems right for you, the next step is completing a comprehensive 90-minute assessment with one of our therapists, followed by a separate 45-minute feedback session. Your assessment will include the completion of assessment forms and a background questionnaire to help us understand the challenges you are facing. Together, we will explore what is going well in your life, where you feel off of your baseline, and where you want to see change so we can create a plan that supports your goals.
The comprehensive assessment is typically in person; however, if in-person services are a prohibiting factor, the Modern Minds clinical team will determine if telehealth services are appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
Part 2: Feedback Session
This should take 45 minutes
In the feedback session, you will go over your assessment and recommended treatment plan with your therapist. Your plan will include careful consideration of your physical and mental health and may include one-on-one therapy, group therapy, medication management, as well as a variety of wellness activities for your mind and body.
Once your assessment and feedback session are complete, you will have the opportunity to decide if you would like to formally move forward with Modern Minds.
Phase 2
Empowering Growth
Learning, Growing, and Flourishing
Improving mental health can be challenging, but it does not have to be complicated.
Step 1
Creating the Environment
Your program begins by partnering with a Modern Minds therapist who is an expert in creating an open, nonjudgmental environment in which you can develop a new understanding about your life and circumstances. You will work collaboratively with your therapist to determine an appropriate treatment volume that suits your needs and lifestyle. Most clients work with their therapist one time per week in person, or virtually through our secure portal; however, treatment schedules vary according to individual needs.
Step 2
Learning and Growing
You and your therapist will work together to cultivate the mental and physical skills needed to create meaningful change in your life. Utilizing evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and related approaches, you will develop and refine the core skills that help you break free from your mind and start moving toward the life you envision.
In addition to the one-on-one and group therapy, you will also participate in a tailored physical wellbeing program to support the interconnectedness between your physical and mental health. To begin, you will be matched with a Wellness Navigator, also a highly trained mental health professional, who will help guide you throughout your journey. You’ll choose from a range of wellness activities that are designed to help you recognize unhelpful thought patterns and habitual self-defeating behaviors, reorient you with the present moment, and support the health of your physical body.
- Gentle and Yin Yoga classes
- Nutrition groups and counseling
- Mindfulness and meditation groups
- Movement classes
- Synchronicity – Group stretch classes, yoga, mindfulness groups, nutrition counseling, cooking classes, and recovery modalities including, cryotherapy, infrared sauna, low light laser therapy, and compression therapy.
- MUSC Wellness Center – A fully equipped health club including free weight rooms, Jr. Olympic pool, extensive cardio equipment and indoor track, a full schedule of exercise classes, racquet ball and tennis courts, exercise testing, and much more.

Step 3
Flourishing
When you look up at the mountaintop from the base, it is normal to feel both intimidated and excited. Everyone who has endeavored to create meaningful change in their lives has felt the sensations of fear and doubt as they contemplated that change. But by embracing those feelings and welcoming the challenge, you become empowered to grow.
By the end of your time at Modern Minds (which varies on an individual basis, but is frequently between 16-24 weeks), you will have gained the ability to get into the present moment, shift your perspective, change your relationship with your thoughts and emotions, and pursue what is most meaningful in your life.
Modern Minds clients will embark on the next phase of their journey, or simply approach the next day of their life, with renewed optimism, confidence, and physical and mental resilience.
